A Personal Florida Spousal Support Attorney
St. Petersburg Alimony Lawyer
Alimony or spousal support may or may not be an issue in your divorce. In Florida, the courts will look at several factors in determining whether to award alimony (also known as spousal support) as part of a divorce order. Many factors are considered by the court to determine if alimony is awarded. The court will also consider the contributions one party may have made to the marriage such as caring for the children or supporting a spouse in school. One party must be able to afford alimony payments, and the party receiving those payments must have a financial need.
There is no magic formula that is used to determine alimony payments in Florida. As your lawyer, my job will be to present the facts of your case to the court, which will make a ruling based on the specifics of your case.
There are six types of spousal support in Florida:
- Temporary alimony
- Permanent alimony
- Bridge-the-gap alimony
- Periodic or rehabilitative alimony
- Lump-sum alimony
- Durational alimony
Alimony can be modified after divorce if there is a substantial change in the financial circumstances of the parties. It can also be terminated based on new Florida statutes and agreements previously made by you or orders of the court.
